It’s been about two months since Apple rolled out iOS 7.1.2, and over two months since iOS 8 got unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference. With the official iOS 8 release date looming, it would appear that many Apple device users are hoping against hope that that release date happens sooner, even if it’s almost guaranteed Apple will roll out its new software two days ahead of the iPhone 6 release, no sooner, no later.
iOS 7.1.2 was released towards the end of June, and since then, there have been a lot of iPhone and iPad owners taking to the support forums and third-party tech blogs to express their displeasure with the new software. Though we haven’t seen anything in the same level as the iMessage debacle from the early days of iOS 7, users have complained about a laundry list of issues, primarily battery life but also including poor Wi-Fi connectivity, problems with Bluetooth, the cameras, the speakers, Facebook Messenger and other apps, and low volume. As such, these users are clamoring for an iOS 8 update to arrive quickly, though the reality remains that it might be another month or so before it does roll out.
Battery life, while the most common complaint, has been hit-or-miss for others. A special report from Gotta Be Mobile related how battery life seemed “fantastic” during the first two months of iOS 7.1.2 on the iPhone 5, though severe battery drain was reported after using AT&T 4G LTE and HSPA. This may require users to try any one of several workarounds, though it’s not a guarantee these “home remedies” will work all the time on all types of affected devices.
Apple is said to be launching the iPhone 6 on September 9, which would make the most logical iOS 8 rollout date September 17, or two days ahead of the rumored iPhone 6 release date of September 19. While it’s likely the software may fix a number of iOS 7.1.2 bugs, users should temper their expectations and prepare for some fresh new bugs on the new software.
