The Droid Turbo was released in the United States last week as a Verizon exclusive manufactured by Motorola and sharing both companies’ branding. But if you live outside of the U.S., there’s now a way to buy this awesome new device, as Motorola is selling the Droid Turbo in other markets as the Moto Maxx.
There really isn’t any difference between the Moto Maxx and the Droid Turbo except for the brand name, and today Motorola released it Brazil as the Verizon flagship’s non-American equivalent. The device is scheduled to hit stores in Mexico and Latin America by the end of the month, and rumors suggest that it may also be offered by another American carrier, AT&T. Still, the bottom line remains the same – the Moto Maxx is simply a rebranded Droid Turbo, and as we saw when the Droid Turbo arrived, that’s not a bad thing at all.
To refresh your memory on the Moto Maxx/Droid Turbo, the phone’s basic specifications include a 5.2-inch, 2560 x 1440 Quad HD display, a 2.7 GHz Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor mated to 3 GB RAM, 32 GB and 64 GB internal storage options, unfortunately without microSD, Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box with updates to Android 5.0 Lollipop to follow soon, a 21-megapixel rear camera, and a 2.1-megapixel front camera. The device runs on a 3,900 mAh battery regardless of its name. Indeed, this is a flagship with specs capable of beating out the Galaxy S5 of Samsung and the HTC One M8, but as always, it has its features to differentiate it.
These features include front-facing speakers, which are no longer uncommon in the flagship smartphone space, but Motorola has baked in Turbo Charger support, truly allowing the Droid Turbo/Moto Maxx to stand out. This allows users to give their devices eight hours of battery life in just 15 minutes or so. It also comes with a water repellent design, which isn’t to be confused with waterproofing or IP67 water resistance, and is also a scratch-resistant device.
