Yesterday, it was thought that Verizon would have exclusivity over the HTC One M8 for Windows, though that doesn’t appear to be the case after all. Not long after the much-hyped Windows Phone 8.1 device was launched by HTC, AT&T has confirmed that the HTC One M8 for Windows will be headed to Ma Bell.
The announcement was made late last night, and while an official release date has not yet been provided, AT&T confirmed that it hopes to add the HTC One M8 for Windows to its “leading portfolio” of phones powered by the Windows Phone 8.1 OS. So far, all we have is a Coming Soon page, with nary a whit of release date details, and as far as features and specifications go, it would appear that the AT&T version won’t vary from the Verizon edition that was launched yesterday. Of course, the only difference is the AT&T logo on the back of the device, but other than that, it looks identical to the Verizon edition.
Though many consumers have expressed displeasure that the HTC One M8 for Windows is the same old M8 with Windows Phone 8.1 replacing Android 4.4 as the device’s operating system, the phone remains arguably unique in the Windows Phone market, due to HTC-centric features such as BoomSound speakers, 4 Ultrapixel and Duo Camera technology, and a durable aluminum unibody construction. Add those selling points to a strong set of core specifications, and you’ve got a device that should help Windows Phone’s fortunes, especially once the AT&T version hits stores.
