It’s now official – launch dates for three major Motorola products (Moto 360, Moto G2, Moto X2) were announced yesterday morning, with Motorola holding its own IFA 2014 press event to launch these devices.
Motorola announced yesterday that it will be organizing a press event on September 4, one day after Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 launch, and five days prior to the iPhone 6’s debut, sending invitations to this media briefing. And while the invites do not say what products are due to arrive, it looks like these products will include the flagship Moto X2 (formerly known unofficially as the Moto X+1), the midrange Moto G2, and the Moto 360 companion smartwatch. If the Moto 360 is launched on September 4, that would make the second time it is unveiled, the first time having been at Google’s I/O conference this June.
What Motorola did not divulge through the invites is the devices’ release dates, though it would stand to reason that the company won’t wait too long after their arrival when it eventually makes them available to the public. An earlier rumor had suggested the Moto X2 and Moto G2’s release date would be on September 10, so there’s a good chance the Moto 360 will hit stores on that same day as well.
Rumored specifications of the Moto X2 and Moto G2 have been making the rounds over the past couple weeks, and the former device may come with a 5.2-inch, 1080p display, a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor mated to 2 GB RAM, 16 GB or 32 GB internal memory with microSD expansion, Android 4.4.4 KitKat, and a 12-megapixel rear camera. The Moto X2’s main features may include front speakers and Moto Maker customization. The Moto G2 may come with those same selling features, though its specs may be more on the midrange side – a 5-inch, 720p display, a quad-core Snapdragon 401 paired with 1 GB RAM for its powertrain, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and 16/32 GB internal storage options with microSD.
