About 470,000 Nissan and Infiniti vehicles worldwide are set to be recalled, due to potential fuel leaks on these models.
The recall includes a total of 133,592 vehicles in the United States with direct fuel injection engines, namely 2012-2014 Nissan Juke SUVs, the 2012 to 2013 Infiniti M56 and QX56, and the 2014 to 2015 Infiniti QX70 and QX80 SUVs. The remaining vehicles are located in Europe, Canada, Japan, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and other markets.
According to the recall memo, fuel pressure sensors on these vehicles “may not have been sufficiently tightened during production,” which can result in the sensors loosening with continued vehicle use, and cause a fuel leak on the vehicles. This is a potential fire risk if the leak comes in contact with an ignition source. No fires or injuries have been reported in connection to the issue.
Nissan added that it will notify owners of affected vehicles, and replace any defective fuel pressure sensors with no extra cost. No specific date for the recall was given, but Nissan says it may begin “on or before” January 26, 2015. In the meantime, owners of the above mentioned Nissan and Infiniti models can call Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261, or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
