It shouldn’t come as any surprise, as Google had announced last week that the Android 5.0 Lollipop-powered Nexus 9 tablet would be released on November 3. Still, for what it’s worth, a recent note from Google backs that up, saying that Android 5.0 will indeed be available on the 3rd of last month.
It would appear that Google had a case of loose lips when it released a note to developers yesterday, telling developers that the Android 5.0 Lollipop Software Development Kit (SDK) can now be downloaded. This would allow developers to create and test their Android 5.0 apps and submit them to the Google Play Store once completed, but for average consumers like you and me, the main takeaway from the note comes toward the end – Android 5.0 Lollipop will be rolling out on November 3.
While we know that the Nexus 9 will come with Android 5.0, what’s in it for owners of other devices, as well as the Nexus 6? The Nexus 6, for one, is sure to ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop as well, and it may be coming to T-Mobile on November 12, according to a recent report, but release details for that device are still largely up in the air. Owners of existing Nexus devices should get the new software ahead of those who don’t own Google-branded phones or tablets, and according to Google, the Nexus 7, Nexus 10, Nexus 5,and Nexus 4 will get Lollipop “in the coming weeks.”
For owners of non-Google Nexus devices, HTC announced last week that the HTC One M8 and One M7 will get Android 5.0 updates “within 90 days of receiving final software,” which could point to any time between November 2014 and February 2015. Motorola also confirmed that the 2013 and 2014 versions of the Moto X and Moto G, plus the Moto E, would get bumped to Android 5.0 at some point in 2014.
