If Facebook was the bee’s knees just a few years ago, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore, as Tumblr and Pinterest are now the “hottest properties” in the social media space, named along with Instagram as the fastest-growing such services in the industry.
Over the past six months, Tumblr has attracted 120 percent more users, while Pinterest got an additional 111 percent more over the same time frame, with a good percentage of these new users being teens. Facebook, on the other hand, was dead-last among eight social media services, gaining only 2 percent more new users. Other platforms included in the study were YouTube, Google+, LinkedIn, and Twitter.
Though Tumblr adoption is indeed rising at a more than respectable rate, it remains last place in terms of overall user base, while Facebook is still safely in the lead, thanks to its long-running status as the leader in social media. Still, one can’t help but wonder how much longer Facebook would remain on top, what with its growth rate decelerating at a rapid pace, and teens reportedly opting for simpler, snappier platforms, including WhatsApp, Snapchat, and the aforementioned Tumblr and Pinterest.
