At the present, the Audi TT is only sold in two forms – as a coupe and as a roadster – but there have long been rumors swirling about the possibility of a four-door TT. The latest rumors suggesting this come from Automobile magazine, which said today that Audi may be working on a production version of the TT Offroad Concept that was launched last year at the Beijing auto show. This vehicle, the so-called “Audi TTQ,” will be a similar four-door crossover slotting underneath the Q3 on the German carmaker’s lineup.
According to Automobile’s sources, the TTQ’s hybrid version may be powered by a 2.0-liter turbo four paired with two electric motors; the gas engine may be capable of as much as 295 horsepower, while the two electric motors may be rated at 55 horsepower and 115 horsepower. This is the same setup as the TT Offroad Concept, and it looks like Audi won’t be making any changes to the powertrain. The hybrid version may be an available option, but Automobile made no mention of the TTQ’s base powertrain setup.
2014 was a busy year for Audi TT concept vehicles, with an all-road shooting brake variant also debuting at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, and a TT Sportback concept arriving at the Paris auto show in October. As compact luxury crossovers are seemingly gaining traction in the market, the Audi TTQ may just be what Audi needs to compete against Mercedes-Benz’s GLA-Class and BMW’s X1.
