Talk regarding a Nexus 6 launch later this fall remains quite prevalent, and with that October or November arrival in mind, the Google Nexus 5 is now selling at lower prices through multiple third-party sources, including eBay.com.
The Nexus 5 is close to a year old, and after rumors had briefly suggested the end of the Nexus program as we know it, it now appears that it will be soldiering on, with the Motorola-made “shamu”, or Nexus 6 as it’s expected to be known upon launch. The previous Nexus 5, while Google-branded, is an LG device based on the flagship LG G2, and it was released at the start of November 2013 at $349 for the 16 GB edition and $399 for the 32 GB version. Both represent very competitive price points, but thanks to eBay, buyers can now get the base version for less.
Customers can purchase the more popular 16 GB version for only $315 unlocked on eBay, which is not much of a discount, but still quite solid considering that’s a tax-free price (except in New Jersey) and ships for free. That makes the discount worth considering, as the fine print on the Google Play Store includes a number of additional charges on top of the list price.
What can you get out of the Nexus 5? Even as it’s close to a year old, it’s still quite a commendable phone specs-wise; its basics include a 5-inch, 1080p display, a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor mated to 2 GB RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with speedy Android L updates sure to follow upon the new software’s rollout, and a very underrated 8-megapixel rear camera with OIS. Of course, there are tradeoffs for that low price, such as the lack of microSD expansion, but most consumers like Nexus devices for their cheap price tags and vanilla Android experience with zero bloatware, and not for any other special features.
